B And B Accommodation In Christchurch

Posted by Harold Williams 20 August, 2009

Of the many forms of accommodation available in Christchurch, the B and B accommodation is well served with a variety of different places available. Classified as part of the Guest and Hosted category of accommodation, Bed and Breakfast accommodation includes lodges, farmstay, boutique hotels and homestay.

Key characteristics of all these, which differentiates them from other types of accommodation, are their emphasis on the personal relationship between the guests and the hosts, together with the nature of the accommodation being part of the hosts’ own accommodation or home.

Typically breakfast is included with the accommodation tariff and self catering / cooking facilities are not provided, though in room tea and coffee making facilities are common. Rooms usually have a TV and phone access and bathrooms are normally ensuite, though some may be private or shared.

The key differences between the types of Guest and Hosted accommodation are :

Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

Breakfast is included in the room tariff. Some Bed and Breakfasts offer other meals, but not normally included in the tariff.

Boutique Accommodation

Boutique accommodation offers a special character, such as that associated with an historic or heritage building, and may be smaller and more intimate than mainstream accommodation. Again, breakfast is normally included in the room tariff.

Farmstay Accommodation

Many visitors enjoy the opportunity to experience staying on a working farm. These are typically located some distance from city centres and as a consequence Farmstays tend to include dinner as well as breakfast in the room tariff.

Homestay Accommodation

Here the sharing of facilities with the hosts and living as part of the family is a major part of this experience.

Lodge Accommodation

High levels of accommodation and cuisine is the nature of Lodge accommodation. Often located in larger buildings and providing superior surroundings. Special activities are often provided by lodges located in more remote areas – appealing to guests who enjoy nature, fishing, hunting, and outdoor sports. The tariff includes breakfast and often dinner, sometimes also pre-dinner drinks.
